Delaware Valley chooses Zwaan as college football head coach

Bill Zwaan is the new head coach of the Delaware Valley University football team.

Zwaan spent the last 13 seasons at Division II West Chester as the offensive coordinator, with the first 11 on dad Bill Zwaan Sr’s staff and the last two with Duke Greco, the former DelVal head coach. His dad is the winningest football coach in West Chester history.

“DelVal is an excellent school with a tradition of great athletic programs, especially football,” Zwaan said. “I come from a program, both as a player and a coach, that has an outstanding athletic and football tradition, and that experience will help me develop a program that continues DelVal’s football success and one that people will be proud to be a part of.”

Zwaan’s offenses regularly ranked near the top in Division II, averaging more than 420 yards and 35 points per game with him as offensive coordinator.

“He is a brilliant football mind, and we look forward to supporting Billy and his staff in the pursuit of his lofty goals for our football program,” said DelVal athletic director David Duda. “He will be a great leader of young men, both on and off the field of play, and will be an asset to our entire campus community.”

Greco enjoyed the most successful tenure (a 91-15 record, six straight Division III Middle Atlantic Conference titles) in school history before heading to WCU in 2024.

Prior to West Chester, Zwaan coached at Lycoming in 2008 and Widener from 2009–11. A three-year starting quarterback at WCU, Zwaan led West Chester to three straight playoff appearances and was named the Maxwell Football Club Tri-State College Player of the Year in 2007.

Zwaan succeeds former DelVal standout QB Mike Isgro, who resigned after two seasons and a 16-6 record as head coach to take a job on Greco’s staff.
