The 2026 edition of the transfer portal closes on Friday night, and the Oklahoma Sooners still have time to add to their roster ahead of next season. Players must be in the portal by the time it closes, but they can still sign with new teams after the deadline of January 16th. On Tuesday, OU saw a former player land with a school in the same conference.

Former Oklahoma defensive back Gentry Williams has committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs out of the transfer portal. Williams spent four seasons in Norman, after arriving as a member of OU’s 2022 recruiting class. He’ll arrive in Athens with one more year of eligibility remaining.

Williams broke out as a starter at cornerback for the Sooners in 2023, but injuries derailed his time at Oklahoma. When he was healthy, he was an excellent player at OU, but he missed time in 2023, missed almost all of 2024, and missed the second half of 2025, including Oklahoma’s “Red November” run to the College Football Playoff, due to injuries.

Williams tallied 47 tackles and four interceptions during his time in Norman, and he’ll see his former team on the field in 2026. Oklahoma visits Georgia on September 26th. He’ll give the Bulldogs a veteran presence and a player with starting experience in the SEC, as they look to win their third-straight conference title.

The Sooners have already added one cornerback in the portal, in Oregon transfer Dakoda Fields. They also expect to return starters Eli Bowen and Courtland Guillory, who were both underclassmen in 2025.
