Notre Dame football has taken full advantage of Penn State over the last year, both on the field and in recruiting.

The Irish won on the field during last year’s College Football Playoff, and have since taken away running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, won multiple recruiting battles with potentially more on the horizon. Since the Nittany Lions fired head coach James Franklin, they’ve seen many of their current commitments wavering at all different degrees.

One of those prospects is 2026 safety Matt Sieg, who will be in South Bend this weekend according to a report by 247Sports. It’s not just their experts that believe a chance could be coming, as On3 also thinks the Irish are giving PSU all they can handle in this recruiting battle.

Notre Dame has a pretty full class with twenty-seven current commits, but taking up to 30 prospects isn’t out of the question. Especially considering the new transfer rules with just one window, teams can afford to have smaller rosters in hopes of filling in the gaps later.

Back to Sieg, who stands 5-foot, 11-inches and 190-pounds is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 180 overall player the soon-to-be signing 2026 class. He’s also taken recent visits to Indiana and Pittsburgh, as it looks like the potential for a flip is very high. Notre Dame will have a chance to make a big impression on him this weekend, and if it does, the Irish could be adding him to their highly rated recruiting class.
