The Texas Longhorns may not have accomplished the goal they set out to this college football season, but it wasn’t a total loss.
Texas opened the season as the No. 1 team in college football, but ultimately finished the year with a 10-3 record. They were one of the handful of teams that were left out of the College Football Playoff despite having what many viewed as a legitimate chance to make it. In fact, head coach Steve Sarkisian declared it’d be a “disservice” to college football if they didn’t make it.
Ultimately, the Longhorns had to settle for a Citrus Bowl win, but the team’s shortcomings on the field were briefly forgotten this week.
As announced by the program on X, the Longhorns posted a 3.31 GPA during the fall semester.
“Getting it done in the classroom,” wrote Texas.

Plenty of fans made sure to applaud the program for.
“Job well done,” wrote one user.
“Hook ‘em tutors,” joked a second.
“The GPA outscored Tech in the playoffs,” quipped another fan.
“This team has really come a long way,” added another.
“Back-to-Back 3.31 GPA for spring & fall ‘25 semesters. Proud of this team,” wrote Texas’ director of recruiting.
“Much improved… if you remember the original,” said another.
While many fans around the country may not remember, Texas went viral in 2019 for celebrating what was at the time the team’s highest GPA in its history, which was an underwhelming 2.89.
Since Sarkisian took over in 2021, not only has the program improved on the field, making two College Football Playoff appearances, but it has also consistently improved in the classroom. Sarkisian attributed this to the cultural change when appearing on “3rd and Longhorn” last spring.
“Going into this past season, we had a 3.27 team GPA,” Sarkisian said. “We go 13-3, we’re in the SEC Championship game we have 12 guys drafted, three first rounders. This past spring we have a 3.31 team GPA. So it’s like amazing how our wins have increased, our draft picks have increased, but our GPA’s gone up.”
Classroom improvements may not move the fans, but in an effort to make a title run next season, the Longhorns have put together the No. 2 transfer portal class, headlined by former Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman.
For Texas fans, it feels fair to assume that they plan to be celebrating a national championship at this time of next year, and not a GPA.
