Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide had a rough ending to his second season as the program’s head coach. After an ugly loss in the SEC championship to SEC rival Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama finished the regular season with a 10-3 record, earning the No. 9 seed in the College Football Playoff.
The Crimson Tide made light work of their first-round opponent, taking down John Mateer and the No. 8 seed Oklahoma Sooners 34-24 on the road. But the 2025 college football season came to an end for Alabama after falling to Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza and the No. 1 seed Indiana Hoosiers 38-3 in the Rose Bowl.
Now, DeBoer has a lot of work to do as he begins preparation for the 2026 season. He will have to replace quarterback Ty Simpson, who has declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, while losing 20 other players to the NCAA transfer portal. And on Tuesday, the Crimson Tide lost a 21st.
Jordan Renaud, a 6-foot-4 defensive end out of Tyler Legacy High School (Tyler, Texas), was a four-star prospect in the class of 2023 (247Sports). He ranked as the 92nd-best prospect in his class, while listed as the 12th-best edge rusher and the 18th-best from the state of Texas.
Renaud did not see much action in his freshman season with Alabama, appearing in just two games and earning a redshirt. But his role increased dramatically in 2024, playing in 12 matchups and recording 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack. In 2025, he appeared in all 15 games, including three starts, securing a career-high 18 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two QB hurries.
But on Tuesday, Renaud decided it was time for a change, as the redshirt sophomore entered the transfer portal, becoming the sixth defensive lineman DeBoer and the Crimson Tide have lost to the portal.
“NEW: Alabama DL Jordan Renaud has entered the NCAA transfer portal, @PeteNakos reports,” On3’s Transfer Portal wrote on X.

While DeBoer and Alabama have lost many players to the portal, they have been able to add 10 as well, including four-star defensive lineman Devan Thompkins, who tallied three sacks in 2025 with the USC Trojans.
