Alabama defensive duo announces transfer commitment decision

According to a report from On3's Hayes Fawcett, a pair of Alabama Crimson Tide defensive players – defensive tackle James Smith and edge rusher Qua Russaw – have officially announced commitments to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2026.
Of the two Alabama transfers, Smith will have one season of eligibility remaining, while Russaw has two years.
The duo came to Alabama as members of the Crimson Tide's 2023 recruiting class, each rated as a Top 35 overall prospect nationally, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, out of in-state Carver-Montgomery High School.
In Tuscaloosa, both of Smith and Russaw were starters on the Crimson Tide's defense the last two seasons, with the former racking up a combined 50 tackles, 10 TFL, 3.5 sacks, three pass defenses, and one fumble recovery dating back to 2023.
Russaw had a combined 50 tackles, 3.5 TFL, two sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble over the last two seasons.
