MANHATTAN — Kansas State football legend Terence Newman has been selected to the College Football Hall of Fame as a part of the 2026 class.
Newman, who played for Bill Snyder from 1999-02, was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year in 2002.
The formal induction ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
A Kansas State football Ring of Honor member, Newman was the 2002 Jim Thorpe Award winner, given to the nation's top defensive back. He was an All-American on the football field and a two-time All-American for K-State track and field, winning two Big 12 titles.
Newman, born and raised in Salina, was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He played from 2003-17, appearing in a pair of Pro Bowls and recording 876 total tackles and 42 interceptions over his career.
Newman is the seventh Kansas State player or coach to be selected to the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame. He joins Darren Sproles, Gary Spani and Mark Simoneau, along with coaches Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf, Charles Bachman and Snyder.
Once the 2026 class is inducted, there will be 1,129 players and 241 coaches who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, out of the nearly 5.86 million who have played or coached the game over the last 157 years.
