BATON ROUGE – LSU football has come out of the recruiting dead period for the transfer portal making some moves.

After hosting a bevy of transfer prospects Thursday, Lane Kiffin and company were able to land one. Oregon sophomore transfer tight end/H-back Zach Grace has committed to the Tigers, On3 reports.

Grace (6-3, 240) played in every game for the Ducks this past season mostly on special teams but he did play more than 100 snaps on offense. He’s the second tight end to commit to LSU out of the transfer portal joining Pitt’s Malachi Thomas.

Why Zach Grace picked LSU football out of transfer portal

The Oregon transfer was among the portal players that were in Baton Rouge for a visit Thursday and he came away impressed enough with the presentation and program to lend his pledge to Kiffin and LSU.

Up in Eugene, that were some coaching shifts including former offensive coordinator Will Stein moving on to take the head coaching job at Kentucky. Grace likely wanted to find a new home following the changes on staff at Oregon.

How Zach Grace will fit LSU football’s roster

The pass catching tight end role is very well take care of with the returning of star tight end Trey’Dez Green. The addition of Thomas also helps in that regard.

In Kiffin’s offense, he needed a guy that would do a lot of the dirty work at the position. And he’s found his guy in Grace, who’s known more for his blocking ability. That’s not to say Grace can’t catch the ball but with that LSU has at the position, his blocking will be more coveted in Kiffin’s offense.
