Former Baylor Bears transfer defensive lineman Samu Taumanupepe has committed to the Florida Gators, giving Florida football some added depth to the defensive line.
Taumanupepe, a 6-foot-3-inch, 376-pound interior lineman, began his college career at Texas A&M before transferring to Baylor, where he spent the past two seasons developing in the Bears' defensive rotation. While his on-field production has been limited so far, the Gators are betting on his size, strength and upside in the middle of the defensive front.
During the 2024 season at Texas A&M, Taumanupepe appeared in two games and recorded six total tackles. He also saw action during the 2023 season, which included a redshirt year, giving him additional time to physically develop at the collegiate level.
Last season with Baylor, Taumanupepe recorded two tackles after playing in just two games.
Taumanupepe was regarded as a three-star recruit out of Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas. He was also one of the larger defensive linemen in his class.
Taumanupepe projects as a space-eating defensive tackle who can help absorb double teams. While he may not be a finished product statistically, his frame alone adds immediate value to a defensive front that has emphasized size and physicality.
