After a visit to Iowa City on Jan. 15 and an offer from Iowa football, former SMU wide receiver Lance Beeghley has announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes out of the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 16.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of New Braunfels, Texas, will come to the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on with three seasons of eligibility remaining. While at SMU, he did not see any action for the Mustangs in the 2025-26 season after redshirting in 2024.

As a senior at New Braunfels High School in 2023, Beeghley had 62 receptions for over 900 yards, along with seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns on nine attempts. By the end of his senior year, he had accrued nearly 2,500 receiving yards throughout his high school career.
While Iowa was the only program to earn a visit from Beeghley, he also held offers from both UTRGV and Arizona State.
With Beeghley now in the fold for offensive coordinator Tim Lester next fall, he becomes the third receiver to commit to Iowa during the January transfer portal period, joining former Furman receiver Evan James and former UTRGV receiver Tony Diaz.
Additionally, all three have three years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
