The Miami Hurricanes gained a little more certainty along the defensive line in the days ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Senior Akheem Mesidor was not listed on the Hurricanes’ injury report released on Friday, Jan. 16.
Mesidor suffered an arm injury in the fourth quarter of the Hurricanes’ game against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 8.
The senior defensive lineman was knocked to the ground and then an Ole Miss lineman fell on his outstretched arm. He left the field with help from the Miami medical staff and returned to the game for the Hurricanes’ next defensive drive.
Akheem Mesidor injury
Mesidor’s awkward fall and quick return to the field made the severity of his arm injury a question ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal offered some clarity earlier in the week by describing Mesidor as “full throttle” in the team’s practices.
A Clearwater native, Mesidor has enjoyed a productive first season with the Hurricanes after transferring from West Virginia. He has 10.5 sacks and 36 total tackles entering Monday’s final.
