Wisconsin football landed a commitment from former UW-La Crosse punter Ethan Tranel on Saturday.
Tranel joins the Badgers after two years with the Eagles. He appeared in 12 games as a freshman in 2024, punting 35 times for a 40.1 yards-per-punt average. He then suited up for 11 games in 2025, improving his yardage total to 41.8 on 51 punts. Twelve of those punt attempts went for 50+ yards, with 18 pinning the opponent inside the 20-yard line.
"Beyond grateful for the last 2 years (at UW-La Crosse)," Tranel wrote on X. "Special thanks to (head coach Matt Janus) and (defensive coordinator Michael Zweifel) for the opportunity! With that being said, I am very excited to continue my football journey at the University of Wisconsin."
Tranel is part of a Wisconsin transfer class that now sits at 31 commitments. The group currently is On3's No. 18 in the nation at this late stage of the cycle. He'll join a Wisconsin specialist room that lost starting punter Atticus Bertrams to the portal earlier this offseason. Underclassman Sean West is set to return after winning the starting job midway through the 2025 campaign.
