While the transfer portal has closed, the Texas Longhorns have not stopped adding talent. On Sunday, the Longhorns secured a commitment from Akron linebacker Markus Boswell. The Texas native showed flashes of being a productive player in his freshman season and will now help the Longhorns chase a title.

During the 2025 campaign, Boswell recorded 19 total tackles while appearing in 11 games. He also added one forced fumble, one interception, and two fumble recoveries to his resume. While the Longhorns' newest linebacker received limited playing time, he has been a solid contributor when he sees the field.

After losing Bo Barnes and Liona Lefau to the portal, Texas has been busy replenishing its depth. Their additions include  New Mexico’s Trey Dubuc, Florida State’s Justin Cryer, and Pitt’s Rasheem Biles. They will be joined by veteran Ty' Anthony Smith and five-star recruit Tyler Atkinson.

With the Longhorns, Boswell will most likely serve as a depth piece. That is a role he filled very well last year, which partly drove the Longhorns' interest. Now that Boswell is officially in the mix, Steve Sarkisian and his staff can focus on maximizing the former Zips star’s game.

As the Lake Travis Alum begins the next chapter of his football career, he has plenty of time to get up to speed. He still has three years of eligibility remaining, which will be beneficial to him as he grows into a bigger role. How he develops into the Longhorns system will be interesting to watch with high expectations on the line.
