In a tightly contested game, it’s so often special teams that makes the difference.
Indiana is hoping the biggest play of the national championship came to pass in the third quarter, when Miami lined up to punt from its own 16-yard line. As Hurricanes punter Dylan Joyce rolled out to do his rugby style punt, Mikail Kamara came screaming through and blocked the punt.
It was recovered by the Hoosiers in the end zone to give Indiana a 17-7 lead and its first touchdown since midway through the second quarter:

The Kamara-Isaiah Jones connection was the first punt blocked for a touchdown in College Football Playoff history, as noted by the Hoosiers’ account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Yards have been hard to come by for both offenses through the first three quarters, with the two teams combining for 399 yards.
