Miami Hurricanes longtime backup quarterback Emory Williams is entering the transfer portal.

Williams, who spent three seasons at Miami while playing in just 12 games, posted his decision on social media..

The redshirt sophomore played in five games this season, completing 13 of 19 passes for 156 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception.

Williams started two games as a freshman in 2023 when then-starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was hurt. Williams led Miami to a win over Clemson, completing 24 of 33 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also started against Florida State, completing 8 of 23 passes for 175 yards. He suffered a season-ending arm injury in that game.

Williams returned for the 2024 season and backed up Cam Ward. He threw for 161 yards and a touchdown in a blowout win over Ball State and did not play again until UM’s bowl game against Iowa State. In the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Williams threw for 24 yards on 5 of 16 passing.

Williams’ departure leaves three scholarship quarterbacks on Miami’s roster for next year: redshirt sophomore Judd Anderson, redshirt freshman Luke Nickel and true freshman Dereon Coleman. The Hurricanes are expected to pursue Duke quarterback Darian Mensah, who announced he was entering the transfer portal on Friday.

Reserve linebacker to transfer

UM reserve linebacker Bobby Washington is also entering the transfer portal.

Washington, a four-star prospect out of Miami Palmetto, played 175 combined snaps in 2023 and 2024 but did not play in 2025. His twin brother, Robby Washington, previously transferred from Miami to Coastal Carolina.
