Alabama football commit EJ Crowell makes good on his promise, named Mr. Football

It took EJ Crowell a moment to compose himself when he reached the podium for the second time on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center in Montgomery.
Crowell was moved to such emotions because he made himself a prophet on what he said this time last year in 2025.
“I told myself that I was going to be the best high school football player in Alabama next year,” Crowell said. “To be here holding these awards, it’s just a blessing and shows that I’m a man of my word.”
Crowell was named the ASWA’s Mr. Football of the 2025 high school football season in Alabama.
The Jackson running back and University of Alabama signee, earned the right to say he’s the best player in the 2025 football season after rushing for 2,632 yards and 35 rushing touchdowns. In the AHSAA Class 4A title game, Crowell broke a 25-year-long record for most rushing yards in a Class 4A title game with 304 yards and five scores.
The previous record was held by T.R. Miller’s Rayvon Howard when Howard rushed for 288 yards in 2000.
Besides winning Mr. Football, Crowell’s favorite moment of the 2025 season and breaking the record, further cementing his legacy in the world of Alabama high school football.
“No one else can say they did what I did because I broke that record, we worked hard to win that title so I am going to carry that same work over in college,” Crowell said.
According to 247 Composite, the five-star running back was the second-best high school running back in the country, and the best in the state of Alabama validated by Crowell being named Alabama’s 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year.
Crowell is the first player from Jackson to win the prestigious award, and was also named the Back of the Year in Class 4A in 2025.
Crowell’s time at Jackson has come to an end, but the newest member of the Mr. Football club is eager to begin the next chapter of his football career with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“You can expect big things from me at the next level. I am ready to get going,” Crowell said.
