Will Theo Grace have an impact for LSU football? How transfer portal LB fits

BATON ROUGE – LSU football has got its next set of brothers on the team.

Star linebacker Whit Weeks and his younger brother and linebacker, Zach Weeks, are going to have to make some room as linebacker Theo Grace completed the second set of brothers as he has signed with LSU, the program announced Tuesday night.

Grace joins his brother, Zach, who transferred to LSU from Oregon earlier during the transfer portal window. Lane Kiffin adds a second linebacker out of the portal.

With North Dakota in 2025, Grace played in one game, recording one tackle. Grace has four years of eligibility remaining.

Why Theo Grace picked LSU football out of transfer portal

Pretty simple answer to why Grace decided to transfer to the Tigers after spending last season at North Dakota: He wanted to play with his older brother.

They last played on the same team in high school three years ago in Kearney, Missouri.

How Theo Grace fits with LSU football’s roster

LSU is a great landing spot for Grace. Defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s defense needs depth in the middle, and Grace is the exact kind of linebacker for which LSU was searching in the transfer portal.

Like the aforementioned Weeks brothers, there are some returners back for the Tigers that have experience, but like Zach Weeks last season, there is a path for Grace to earn some playing time early for LSU. This is more likely a development move for LSU, but if push came to shove and Grace has to play extensively in 2026, Baker will be fine with it.

LSU football transfer targets

  • Missouri edge rusher Damon Wilson
  • Colorado offensive lineman Jordan Seaton

When did transfer portal close?

The NCAA transfer portal window closed Jan. 16. Players are no longer permitted to enter their name in the portal. However, those whose name were already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
