SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football and Brigham Young have set a date for their 2026 fall meeting.
The teams will play Oct. 17 in Provo, Utah, the Irish announced Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Ranked 11th and 12th, respectively, in the final US LBM Coaches Poll, Notre Dame and BYU last met in Las Vegas in 2022. The Irish claimed their fourth straight win in the series, a 28-20 decision that evened coach Marcus Freeman’s career coaching record at 3-3.
Freeman’s teams have won 40 of their last 49 games since that Shamrock Series meeting.
Notre Dame, left out of the College Football Playoff despite a 10-2 record, declined a Pop-Tarts Bowl invitation to meet BYU in Orlando last month.

Under coach Kalani Sitake, who recently finished his 10th season, BYU has posted 10 or more wins in four of the past six seasons. The Cougars are 23-4 over the past two seasons, including an 11-1 mark at home.
The lone loss came in November of 2024 against unranked Kansas (17-13), a fellow Big 12 Conference member.
Notre Dame has split its previous two visits to LaVell Edwards Stadium. The Irish rolled 45-20 in 1993, but the Cougars prevailed 20-17 in the 2004 season opener. BYU built a 20-3 lead midway through the third quarter and held on for the win.
This will be the first of two scheduled meetings between the faith-based schools in a home-and-home series announced in December once USC officially dropped off the Irish’s schedule.
BYU will visit South Bend in 2027 with the date and time to be determined.
