The college football season finally concluded on Monday night with the Indiana Hoosiers prevailing over the Miami Hurricanes for the national championship. With the end of the campaign, USA TODAY Sports released its final rerank.

The last time the Florida Gators played, they beat the Florida State Seminoles in the Swamp to finish 4-8, which moved them up four spots in the penultimate rerank to No. 79 in the nation. However, after the bowl games and playoffs were complete, the Orange and Blue tumbled three places to No. 82.

At least FSU also slipped three spots to No. 87. It is the season for schadenfreude.

SEC teams in final USA TODAY Sports rerank

The Ole Miss Rebels were the top Southeastern Conference school in the final rerank, checking in at No. 3, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs (No. 5) and Texas A&M Aggies (No. 8) to give the SEC three top-10 teams. The trio of the Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners appear consecutively at Nos. 11, 12 and 13, while the Vanderbilt Commodores finish at No. 18 to round out the top 25.

The Tennessee Volunteers come in at No. 29, with the Missouri Tigers on their heels at No. 30; then there is a big jump to No. 57, where the LSU Tigers lie, with the No. 71 Mississippi State Bulldogs lagging a bit behind them.

The Kentucky Wildcats, Auburn Tigers and Florida hold the Nos. 80, 81 and 82 positions, respectively, while South Carolina is ranked at No. 91 and the Arkansas Razorbacks wrap up the conference schools at No. 108.

Florida football’s USA TODAY Sports 136 team rerank history

Florida started the year just inside the top 25, nearly 10 spots below its preseason ranking in either major poll.

55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.

Following another loss, to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall. After loss No. 3 to Miami, the Gators fell 15 spots to No. 64. Florida started its climb back up the rankings in Week 5 while on a bye, albeit a one-spot ascent, but an upset victory over the Texas Longhorns sent the Gators up to No. 56 in the country.

Losing to Texas A&M in Week 8 led to an eight-spot drop, but the bye week brought a one-spot climb. Florida fell to No. 60 in Week 10 and dropped even further to No. 73 three weeks ago before falling again in Week 13.

Florida closed things out by moving up four spots to No. 79 after Week 14’s win over FSU. The final tally has the Gators down three spots to their final ranking at No. 82.
