Ohio State finished in the top 10 of 61 of the 62 submitted ballots for the final US LBM Coaches Poll of the season. The odd coach out was Delaware's Ryan Carty, who had Ohio State nowhere on his list.
According to Delaware assistant athletic director Ed LeFurge III, omitting the Buckeyes was an "error" and not intentional.
Like Ohio State coach Ryan Day, Carty is a former assistant at New Hampshire. Day coached tight ends for UNH in 2002, while Carty joined the staff in 2007 and worked his way up to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before departing in 2017.
Carty led Delaware to a 20-13 victory over Louisiana in the 68 Ventures Bowl on Dec. 17 in the program's first FBS season.
Outside of Carty, the coach who ranked Ohio State the lowest was Miami (OH) coach Chuck Martin, who had them at No. 10. A couple of other notable voters: Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, a former Ohio State player and assistant coach, ranked the Buckeyes No. 6. Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti voted the Buckeyes No. 5.
The Buckeyes finished sixth overall in the final poll.
