It’s set to be a busy offseason for Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie, one of the top defensive prospects in the 2027 cycle.
Currie is coming off a visit to Texas last weekend — a trip that left a serious impression. He’s now set to visit LSU this weekend, with a visit to Alabama now likely on the docket to close out January. According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, Oregon was originally set to get that last visit of the month.
Even if the Ducks don’t get Currie back to Eugene soon, they remain a top contender in his process. Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, D-line coach Tony Tuioti and O-line coach A’lique Terry all came down to California to visit the four-star this week:
“Oregon wants me for D-line and O-line,” Currie told Gorney earlier this month. “We’re going to figure that one out. I want to play D-line but I’m going to hear them out on the O-line side for sure. They’re just rebuilding from the same staff so it won’t be anything new. Tosh (Lupoi) leaving is a big part because he was the one recruiting me but it was also coach (Tony) Tuioti recruiting me, too.”
Currie is the No. 35 overall prospect and No. 3 DL in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 soon-to-be senior in California.
It’s been well-documented that Oregon can recruit the Golden State as good as anybody. Sierra Canyon touted a loaded 2025 roster, but its three top prospects all landed elsewhere. Texas flipped five-star EDGE Richard Wesley from the Ducks and it looks to be in the early lead for Currie after his trip to Austin last weekend.
LSU went out West to land top-100 cornerback Havon Finney and the Tigers will now get Currie back to Baton Rouge this weekend. USC signed three prospects from Sierra Canyon last month and won’t be keen on letting Currie leave the home state, either.
Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M and Tennessee are among the other programs in the mix for the blue-chipper. Currie is aiming to trim his list of top schools down in the spring.
Oregon’s lone commitment in the 2027 cycle to date came in June via Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star DL Cam Pritchett, a top-200 recruit and top-25 prospect at the position.
