The North Carolina Tar Heels could soon learn their fate for a top prospect in the 2026 basketball recruiting class, and it’s a player who could shape their future. After five-star guard Dylan Mingo originally announced he would decide today, he pushed back the decision.
The talented recruit is still expected to make a commitment soon but the latest news could favor the Tar Heels.
As of last week, the only crystal ball prediction for Mingo was to Baylor. But now, with Mingo postponing his decision, that prediction is gone. The lone prediction from Travis Branham has been removed as of Thursday and it could mean that the Tar Heels have made up ground.
Mingo is down to four schools with UNC, Baylor, Penn State, and Washington. His brother, Kayden Mingo, currently plays at Penn State.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard ranks No. 8 nationally, the No. 3 combo guard, and No. 1 player in the state of New York per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
UNC currently has just one recruit committed with Maximo Adams picking the Tar Heels back in November.
