The future of the Baltimore Ravens‘ football team is in the hands of its new head coach. The choice came down to Jesse Minter, who beat out two other finalists, Joe Brady and Anthony Weaver.

More details of his new deal have arrived. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Minter signed a five-year deal to become the Ravens‘ fourth head coach. Five-year deals have seemingly been the norm during this head-coaching hiring cycle.

That gives him security. It gives the Ravens a fresh start. Now comes the task of assembling a coaching staff. There are plenty of offensive coordinator candidates and potential defensive coordinators to choose from.

Much of the resume is well-known. He was part of the Ravens’ coaching staff from 2017 until 2020. He began his NFL journey as a defensive assistant. He was then promoted to assistant defensive backs coach in 2019. In 2020, he was again promoted to defensive backs coach.

In 2021, he returned to the NCAA, joining the Vanderbilt Commodores as their defensive coordinator and safeties coach. He took over as the Michigan Wolverines‘ defensive coordinator after Mike Macdonald left to lead the Seattle Seahawks. After Michigan won the College Football Playoff, he followed John Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The pen has been placed on paper, and the deal has been signed. Baltimore got its guy, and he’s a defensive guru. Cue the throwback days to elite defense. That’s something that Ravens fans have waited to hear for quite some time.

Some may not be on board with the five-year deal. Of course, the Ravens can end the arrangement if things don’t work out, but this is a patient organization. Something tells us that Minter will be around for a while.
