Miami RB Girard Pringle Jr. Withdraws from Transfer Portal to Stay with Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes spent most of January focusing on the College Football Playoff and extending their run all the way to the national title game on Monday.

With little time to focus on transfer-portal business, the Hurricanes had to navigate a lot of roster changes after the title game was over, with a few veterans returning and a handful of reinforcements arriving via transfer.

The Hurricanes, as expected, have also seen several players exit following their 27–21 loss to Indiana, whether that’s declaring for the NFL draft or looking for opportunities elsewhere.

Among the departures of the latter ilk was that of true freshman running back Girard Pringle Jr., who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. The 5-foot-10 rusher is an in-state product and looked like one of Miami’s rising stars after his debut season with the Canes

On3’s Pete Nakos immediately linked Pringle to several programs, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, with the analyst labeling Alabama as ” an early school to keep tabs on in this recruitment,” according to sources.

By Thursday night, however, the situation changed again, giving massive relief to the Hurricanes and their backfield outlook for 2026.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that Pringle had withdrawn from the portal and opted to remain at Miami. The decision marks a notable blow to Alabama and other SEC programs that had hoped to add the former four-star recruit.

Pringle had initially considered transferring in search of a bigger role after finishing 2025 with just 62 carries for 375 yards and four touchdowns. Albeit on low usage, Pringle averaged a gaudy 6.0 yards per carry and added a receiving touchdown on 53 yards through the air, hauling in four receptions.

As a high school recruit, Pringle received 36 offers, including from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, and 247Sports listed him as the No. 7 running back and No. 149 player nationally in the 2025 class.

The Crimson Tide’s new coaching staff under head coach Kalen DeBoer is known to be targeting backfield depth following the loss of Richard Young to Colorado via transfer.

Miami, meanwhile, now enters 2026 with a running back room that includes standout Mark Fletcher Jr., Pringle, and CharMar Brown as the top three rushers on it.

The Hurricanes finished 13–3 last season, and Miami’s 2026 opener is set for Sept. 12 in a matchup against Florida A&M.
