It’s not even fully into the 2027 recruiting cycle, and Notre Dame has already done some that it hadn’t in 2026, lost a commitment.
The Irish saw linebacker Ellis McGaskin decide that South Bend won’t be where he’ll play his college football on Friday, officially exiting the class. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 190-pounder from Alabama took multiple visits to Florida State, so it seems like they are the current favorite to land 247Sports No. 263 overall prospect.
While this is bad news for NOtre Dame, it may end up being a blessing in disguise. The Irish are recruiting some of the top players in the country at linebacker, and could end up with commits that are ranked higher than McGaskin. Amarri Irvin is still committed, so the class still has a player at his position committed, although he could end up as a safety.
