Coaching staffs have been out on the road all week visiting top prospects in the 2027 cycle. On Friday, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was in Georgia visiting one of the nation’s best.
Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson four-star EDGE KJ Green has the attention of just about every major program in the Southeast and beyond. FSU is trying to cement its status as a contender and Norvell decided to check in on the pass-rusher:
There’s still a ways to go in Green’s recruitment, but he does already have a commitment date in mind. When speaking with Rivals’ Greg Biggins earlier this month, the 6-foot-3.5, 210-pounder said that he’s eyeing an Aug. 8 decision.
“My favorite number is 8 so I like that date, 8-8, August 8,” Green said. “It fits me so I’m excited. I’ll have taken all my official trips by then and will have to sit back and evaluate every one and then make my decision.”
So, who’s in line to receive those crucial official visits? That remains to be seen, but there are a pair of early contenders. Biggins reported that Alabama and South Carolina “are the two schools who look to be the teams to beat right now.”
Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer also recently stopped by to visit Green. Notre Dame and Miami are also in the mix heading into the spring. Florida State is working to emerge as a real threat for his pledge, too.
Green is the No. 37 overall prospect and No. 6 EDGE in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 junior in the Peach State.
Looking at FSU’s 2027 class so far
After inking a top-15 class last month, Norvell and the FSU staff are trying to crack the top 10 once again in the 2027 cycle. Early on, the Seminoles have four commits in the class.
Ruskin (Fla.) Lennard four-star safety Mekhi Williams is the early headliner, checking in as the No. 120 recruit and No. 11 safety in the nation. FSU has done a fantastic job recruiting in-state defensive backs as of late and Williams has been in the mix since March 26 of last year.
Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County four-star linebacker Gregory Batson committed in November and is now the No. 13 LB and No. 30 player in Georgia. He’s the lone out-of-state commit in the quartet.
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Plantation three-star cornerback Jemari Foreman jumped in the fold in September, while Jacksonville Bartram Trail three-star tight end Connor Winn has been committed since July. Foreman is the No. 50 corner in the cycle, while Winn checks in as the No. 33 TE.
