Former Georgia Bulldogs running back and defensive back Prather Hudson has accepted the safeties coach job with the Georgia Southern Eagles. Hudson, who spent the last season of his college career with the Illinois Fighting Illini, has been on Georgia‘s coaching staff since the 2022 college football season. He helped mentor eight different NFL draft picks in the secondary during his time at UGA.

Hudson joins former Georgia support staffers David Hill (now the running backs coach at Colorado State) and David Metcalf (safeties coach at Western Kentucky) in finding new roles this offseason. Hudson thanked Kirby Smart and other Georgia coaches before taking the Georgia Southern safeties coach job.

“I am incredibly honored and excited by the opportunity to join Georgia Southern’s staff led by Coach Helton,” Hudson said after taking the Georgia Southern job. “I give thanks to God for the path that led me here and for the chance to contribute to something truly special at Georgia Southern.

“I’m thankful for the journey and mentors who prepared me for this opportunity: Coach Kirby Smart, Glenn Schumann, Donte Williams, Travaris Robinson and Andrew Thacker. I’m committed to each player’s growth and development on and off the field, with a team dedicated to excellence and proudly representing Eagle Nation.”
