The Michigan Wolverines finished the 2025 college football season 9-4, losing to the Texas Longhorns in the Citrus Bowl. The team is now under new leadership with Kyle Whittingham hired to replace former head coach Sherrone Moore.
Well into the offseason, Whittingham and his staff continue to stay busy. While the transfer portal winds down, teams continue to attack high school recruiting. Michigan has already landed four commitments in the 2027 cycle and ranks 11th in the nation.
The Wolverines have been pushing hard for a handful of the recruiting class’s top players. That includes wide receiver Dakota Guerrant out of Harper Woods, Michigan.
Standing at 6-foot-1.5 and weighing 200 pounds, Guerrant only appeared in two games last season for Harper Woods High School. He hauled in 14 receptions for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 12 times for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
However, it’s not necessarily his production that makes him a sought-after player. Guerrant is a four-star recruit, the No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 55 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
Throughout the recruiting process, he has shown a tremendous amount of interest in Michigan. His 17 visits with the Wolverines are the most Guerrant has taken with any program. However, his most recent visit was Nov. 29 before Moore’s firing on Dec. 10.
The coaching change appears to be having an effect. While Michigan appeared to be in the lead, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Guerrant to commit to the Oregon Ducks.
Not only would the Wolverines lose a big in-state recruit, but also to a team within the Big Ten. Oregon could use the boost, as its 2027 cycle has only landed two commitments so far.
