The Oklahoma Sooners had a great week, knocking off No. 2 South Carolina in overtime on a big game from freshman Aaliyah Chavez. The Sooners followed that up with a solid road win over Auburn. With the wins last week, Oklahoma moved up to No. 11 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Sooners are 16-4 on the season and 4-3 in SEC play. Their only losses have come to currently ranked No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 LSU, No. 17 Ole Miss, and No. 18 Kentucky. They have a strong resume this season and are projected to land a top-four seed in the NCAA tournament, which would give Oklahoma an opportunity to host the first two rounds of the tournament in Norman.
The UConn Huskies hold the top spot in the poll once again, earning all 31 first-place votes. They’re followed by UCLA, South Carolina, Texas, and LSU.
The Oklahoma Sooners have a pair of pivotal road games coming up. They’ll host Texas A&M on Thursday night but then go on the road to take on No. 4 Texas in Austin and No. 6 Vanderbilt in Nashville.
If Oklahoma can continue to build off of their recent success and freshman Aaliyah Chavez continues to come into her own as one of the best players in college basketball, the Sooners will have an opportunity to make it to the Sweet 16 for the second season in a row.
