Vols insider details the chances that Tennessee makes another big transfer portal addition

The Tennessee Vols have been very active in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.
Tennessee has made 21 transfer additions over the last few weeks. Most of the transfer additions came on the defensive side of the ball (which was important with the Vols bringing in a new defensive coordinator in Jim Knowles).
The portal officially closed on Jan. 16. Players that are in the portal, however, can still transfer to a new program, which means it’s possible we could still see the Vols make some additions.
Vols insider details the chances that Tennessee will make another big portal addition
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined WNML’s SportsTalk on Tuesday and was asked if he thinks Tennessee will make any more big transfer additions this offseason.
“No, I think Tennessee is done right now,” said Hubbs. “They know what’s in the portal. I think they have surveyed what’s in the portal. If they had another need, I think they would have taken another defensive lineman. I don’t know that it was a must. I think having one more experienced guy on the defensive line would have helped, but it just means now that some young players have to step up. And you’ve got to make that step between your freshman and sophomore year if you’re Ethan Utley, Isaiah Campbell, and Mariyon Dye and some of those guys like that. Those guys have to take a real step.
“I think Tennessee is saying, ‘Alright, we’re banking on you guys doing that.’ They did not land the (Walter) Mathis kid from from LSU. They kind of drug it out a little bit with the kid from Texas A&M [while] waiting on Mathis. And that kid from A&M (Daelyn Evans) went to Mississippi State. And that was kind of their two at the finish line they were looking at. They haven’t brought anybody else since — and I don’t expect them to at this point.”
College football is as unpredictable as ever right now, so you can never rule anything out.
But unless Tennessee’s coaching staff uncovers a hidden gem in the portal that they previously missed, it sounds like the Volunteers won’t be making any more major transfer additions this offseason.
