While more portal players could still commit to Michigan, the roster is mostly set heading into spring ball in March.

In this edition of SB Nation Reacts, we want to know what’s the biggest position of concern for Michigan heading into spring ball?

  • Quarterback: Michigan added Colorado State transfer Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, who has 28 career starts with a 60.2 percent completion rate, 6,938 yards passing, 38 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. The Wolverines also added LSU transfer Colin Hurley, a former four-star recruit with four years of eligibility remaining. Other quarterbacks on Michigan’s roster include redshirt freshman Chase Herbstreit and incoming freshmen Brady Smigiel and Tommy Carr.
  • Defensive Line/Edge: Michigan has key interior linemen returning in Enow Etta and Trey Pierce and added Utah’s Jonah Lea’ea who had 38 tackles with one sack and forced fumble last season. At edge Michigan returns Cam Brandt and added an excellent transfer in Utah’s John Henry Daly, who had 11.5 sacks last season. The issue at defensive line and edge is the depth beyond the players just mentioned is inexperienced and unproven.
  • Linebacker: Cole Sullivan transferred to Oklahoma and Jimmy Rolder entered the NFL Draft, leaving  Troy Bowles and Nathaniel Staehling as the likely starters. Other players at linebacker include Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Chase Taylor, three transfers in Max Alford, Aisea Moa and Christian Pierce as well as incoming freshmen in Kaden Catchings, Markel Dabney, and Aden Reeder.
  • Tight End: Tight end Marlin Klein entered for the NFL Draft, leaving Zack Marshall and Hogan Hansen likely battling it out for TE1 duties. Michigan added Utah tight end JJ Buchanan, but he’s listed as a receier for the Wolverines. Deakon Tonielli, Jalen Hoffman, and Eli Owens all could receive playing time in reserve roles. Hoffman projects as an h-back who could fill departing Max Bredeson’s role on offense.
