With the 2025-26 college football season complete, the NCAA transfer portal has been active.
Thousands of players from around the country have entered the portal looking for new homes, including a few from the Texas Panhandle.
Former Tascosa star Tayden Barnes recently transferred from Cincinnati to New Mexico, and recently, fellow Amarillo ISD alumni Jamel Acosta-Lewis found his new home.
After two seasons at West Texas A&M, Acosta-Lewis announced his entry into the transfer portal and will head to Stephen F. Austin, a Division I FCS program competing in the Southland Conference.

Acosta-Lewis tallied 63 tackles, 2½ tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 12 pass breakups and a blocked kick in 2025. The junior earned All-Conference First Team Defense recognition for his efforts, helping West Texas A&M to an 8-4 record and a Heritage Bowl win.
Prior to his time in Canyon, Acosta-Lewis began his college career at Colorado Mesa before transferring to WT. In high school, the standout defensive back played for current Randall head coach Dan Sherwood at Caprock, earning All-District honors.
Now, the 6-foot, 200-pound defender will head to an SFA squad that finished the 2025 season with an 11-3 record. The Lumberjacks took down Abilene Christian in the first round of the FCS Playoffs before falling to No. 2 Montana State in the second round, finishing the year ranked No. 7 in the FCS.
