GVSU hires former Michigan State LB to coordinator role

Grand Valley State has tapped a former Michigan State football linebacker to take a high ranking role on their coaching staff. GVSU head coach Scott Wooster has hired Steve Gardiner as the Lakers new Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach.

Gardiner, a four-year letterwinner, Gardiner recorded 43 tackles in 44 career games for the Spartans from 2009-12. He won a Big Ten championship in 2010. Following his playing days, Gardiner has taken on a career in coaching.

  • 2021-22: Wayne State (LB)
  • 2023: Tiffin (STC/LB)
  • 2024-25: Gardner-Webb (STC/LB)
