The Buffalo Bills made a couple of surprising moves during this offseason as they not only fired head coach Sean McDermott, but they also hired offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace him. While it seems that Buffalo hired Brady to have some semblance of continuity as they look to take advantage of having Josh Allen at quarterback, there is one prominent college head coach that supports the move.

After the Bills hired Brady to be the new head coach moving forward, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin appeared to hype up the move by posting on X that Brady is just different. The post that Kiffin was reacting to was one from Preston Guy, staff writer for TigerBait, noting that while Brady has been in the Bills organization since 2022, his cover photo on his X account is of him with his arms around then LSU wide receivers JaMarr Chase and Justin Jefferson.

Brady, who spent the 2019 season as passing game coordinator & wide receivers coach for the Tigers, was part of the coaching staff of one of the greatest offenses that college football has seen, thanks in part to his football acumen. Brady parlayed that 2019 season in which he was recognized as the best assistant coach while also helping LSU win a national championship into a job with the Carolina Panthers as their offensive coordinator.

While Brady didn’t have much success as the OC for the Panthers, he came to Buffalo ahead of the 2023 season as the quarterbacks coach before adding interim OC to his responsibilities after Ken Dorsey was fired later that year. Heading into the 2024 season, Brady was named the official OC for the team and has headed one of the best offenses in the league in the past two years.

Brady’s seat will only get hotter at this point given that he is now the head coach of a Bills organization that is desparate to compete in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1993. McDermott was fired in part because owner Terry Pegula felt that the team had been unable to get over the hump with McDermott in charge. Whether Brady is able to change things is left to be seen, but it’s safe to say that Kiffin is rooting for him.
