ITTA BENA — Jackson State football wide receiver Nate Rembert is plenty familiar with Mississippi Valley State’s Rice-Totten Stadium.

Before joining the Tigers, Rembert spent the 2024 season with the Delta Devils, totaling 1,038 yards and four touchdowns and was named a 2024 first-team All-SWAC selection.

In his return to Itta Bena on Nov. 8, Rembert caught six passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns to help Jackson State (7-2, 5-1 SWAC) beat his former team, MVSU (1-8, 0-5) by a score of 42-3. The game was Rembert’s third of the season with over 90 receiving yards.

“A lot of emotions, blessed to be able to come back here and play,” Rembert said. “It just feels great. … I built a legacy here last year, so for me, it was like, in a way, coming back to where I started.”

Rembert’s seven targets and six receptions were the most of any Jackson State receiver. Seventy of his 97 yards came after the catch. He also had the longest reception of the game for either team – a screen pass that Rembert took 46 yards to help set up a JSU rushing touchdown six plays later.

Rembert scored a touchdown in each half for the Tigers. He caught a 9-yard pass in the back of the end zone from quarterback Jared Lockhart on the Tigers’ final drive of the second quarter, and later, to end JSU’s first drive of the third quarter, Rembert caught another short pass, this time taking it 14 yards for a touchdown.

“You can’t get him the ball enough,” JSU coach T.C. Taylor said. “It’s just a blessing to have Nate with us. He was pumped up about this game, going against his former team. He wanted the ball every play tonight, but I knew when he touched the ball and he had those opportunities, it was going to be some explosive (plays).”

Rembert’s consistency was key in helping JSU find its rhythm offensively throughout the first half. He also helped Lockhart, a true freshman filling in for the injured JaCobian Morgan, settle in early. Lockhart finished the day 21-for-27 on passing with 241 yards and the two touchdowns to Rembert.

“Anytime we see something on the field and we come back to him, he just listens to us and allows us to let him know what we see so he can correct what he needs to correct in order to play to his highest potential,” Rembert said.
