In just a few months, Longhorns football will welcome a 2026 class full of talent to campus. One potential star in that group is Texas native Jermaine Bishop Jr. He has impressed on both sides of the ball in high school and added a prestigious award to his trophy case on Thursday.
The Longhorns recruit was named the 2025 Build For Tough Mr. Texas football by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Each year, the award is given to the best high school player in the state of Texas. For Bishop, the honor comes as no surprise, as he has been a human highlight reel every time he steps onto the field.
During the 2025 campaign, Bishop split time at cornerback and wide receiver. He was a lethal weapon in the passing game, hauling in 120 receptions for 1,940 yards and 20 touchdowns. When he wasn't frustrating defensive coordinators in the passing game, he was a threat on the ground with 424 rushing yards on 45 carries.

On defense, Bishop excelled while helping Willis High make a deep playoff run. The five-star recruit had 86 tackles and four interceptions. With Bishop making an impact every time that he stepped on the field, the Wildkats finished the regular season with an 11-3 record.
While Bishop's play has made headlines, it mirrors how he is viewed by scouts. He is currently ranked as the 16th-best player in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the third-best player from Texas. If Bishop meets those expectations, the Longhorns will have another elite option to rely on regardless of the position he ends up at.
Thursday provided a reminder of just how good Bishop is and why the Longhorns are continuing down the minutes until his collegiate debut.
