It was sadly reported Thursday that longtime college football coach Lou Holtz has entered hospice care.
Holtz, 89, coached at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame and South Carolina. The two-time Paul "Bear" Bryant Award winner had a 249-132-7 record over the course of 35 years. He also coached the New York Jets in 1976. The highlight of his coaching career has to be winning a national championship with the Fighting Irish in 1988.
Unfortunately, Kyle Sutherland of HawgBeat reported on Thursday that Holtz is in hospice care. Several hours later, ABC57 said a source close to the Holtz family confirmed that sad news.
A member of the Holtz family has not yet released a statement on this situation.
Fans heartbroken for Holtz.
Immediately after the news of Holtz entering hospice care was reported, fans offered their thoughts and prayers to the legendary coach.
"God bless you Coach. Your legacy means so much to so many. Thank you," a fan said.
"Lou always had a good personality, some loved him, some disliked him, but he lived life on his terms and was a winner," a second fan commented.
"Lou is a GREAT American! I pray that his transition is peaceful. God rest his soul," a third fan wrote.
"I remember one time Lou Holtz told his team before a big game they had 60 minutes to play it and a lifetime to remember it. To this day, that’s one of my favorite quotes. Fantastic coach, engaging conversationalist. Hate to hear that he is in bad health," another fan said.
We're certainly keeping Holtz and our loves ones in our thoughts.
