There’s a growing national expectation that 2026 will be the year for the Oregon Ducks. After all, they’re set to return quarterback Dante Moore, a talented core of running backs and wide receivers, the entire defensive line and added top-ranked safety Koi Perich via the transfer portal.
The stage is set for the Ducks to run the table and win it all — but first, a goal that remains on the way to doing so is winning the Big Ten championship.
A panel of The Athletic’s college football experts predict Oregon to do just that, which would be their second time in three seasons since joining the Big Ten in 2024.
The Ducks received 13 of 28 votes, with the Ohio State Buckeyes as the next closest vote-getter with nine votes. From there, the reigning conference champion Indiana Hoosiers received five votes while the USC Trojans got one vote.
Much of Oregon’s chances to even appear in the Big Ten championship game come down to an early-season test on the road against USC and a Nov. 7 bout in Columbus against Ohio State. If they can get through those, plus take down the Michigan Wolverines the week after taking on the Buckeyes and take care of business against every other conference opponent, the Ducks will appear in Indianapolis with a chance to prove The Athletic’s college football experts correct.
While there’s a lot of time before they can prove them correct, the road map is clear for the Ducks to claim a second Big Ten title in three seasons and set themselves up for a deep College Football Playoff run.
