Notre Dame football dominated at home on Saturday night, as the Irish trounced Navy 49-10 in front of a wet and cold crowd in South Bend, Indiana.

The win improved the Irish’ record to 7-2, all the wins following two season opening losses. It’s looking like those won’t matter much if Notre Dame continues to win and it’s already inside the top-12 of the College Football Playoff ranking.

It was a great win for the Irish tonight, and here are five instant reactions to Notre Dame’s impressive victory over Navy.

Notre Dame dominated for a “quarter” and blew the game open

The Irish had a run during part of the second and third quarters that amounted for just a little over a quarter of game time that blew it wide open. Notre Dame started the run 14-7 and ended it up 42-10 midway through the third quarter. We’ve seen over the last few years the Irish have huge scoring runs, and tonight was another.

The conditions didn’t matter for CJ Carr and the Irish offense

It was cold enough for snow, but not enough for it to stick, so the majority of the game was played in very wet conditions in a wintry mix. Notre Dame didn’t turn the ball over once while the first team offense was on the field. Carr was extremely impressive given the circumstances, completing 13-of-16 attempts for 218-yards and 3 touchdowns.

Did Jeremiyah Love have a “Heisman moment” in the snow?

Last weekend Love did the Heisman pose after scoring a touchdown, this weekend he probably should have done another one. It was a big game for the junior, as he rushed for 94-yards and two touchdowns and caught a pass for 27-yards. The second score was the highlight, might have been Love’s “Heisman Moment.” It was a great performance from the Irish star.

Notre Dame’s defense dominated

Sure Navy was missing starting quarterback Blake Horvath, but it’s still a tricky offense to defend. Well, the Irish showed that it wasn’t for them, as they held them under their season rushing average, and allowed virtually no passing yards. In total, Notre Dame’s defense gave up just 228 total yards, a dominating showing, especially the adjustments after the half.

Notre Dame should continue to move up the rankings

It was another weekend that saw some games go Notre Dame’s way. Texas Tech beating BYU was the biggest, as that should move the Irish up even though it was the Cougars first loss. Texas A&M got a SEC road win over a ranked Missouri Tigers team. Next weekends opponent in Pittsburgh didn’t play this weekend, and with teams around them losing, should move u and give Notre Dame another chance for a ranked win. Great weekend for the Irish.
