BYU came into Saturday winners of eight in a row to start the 2025 college football season, but that streak ended against Texas Tech.
The Cougars and Red Raiders faced off in a massive Big 12 matchup, and the Cougars couldn’t get anything going. It was all Red Raiders in the first half, racing out to a 13-0 lead going into halftime before outscoring the Cougars 16-7 in the second half to win 29-7.
Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton finished with 219 yards through the air, one touchdown and no interceptions. It wasn’t the best day for Cougars quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who finished the contest with 188 yards through the air, a touchdown, and an interception.
The Cougars also couldn’t get their ground game going. LJ Martin was their leading rusher, and he finished the game with only 35 yards.
The loss dropped the Cougars into a tie for second place in the Big 12 with the Cincinnati Bearcats. Both teams have 5-1 conference records, while the Red Raiders are in first place with a 6-1 conference record and a 9-1 overall record.
Next up for the Cougars is a date with the TCU Horned Frogs on Nov. 15, followed by a road game against the Bearcats on Nov. 22. They’ll then finish the season against the UCF Knights on Nov. 29.
They’re still in contention for the Big 12 title, but the road to a perfect season for them is over.
