Tino Sunseri’s stint as offensive coordinator for UCLA was short-lived after the Bruins started the 2025 season 0-3. The team averaged just 14.3 points per game under Sunseri.
UCLA fired former head coach DeShaun Foster after the disappointing start. Shortly after that, defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe mutually parted ways with the program. Then, Sunseri was the final coordinator to depart after he mutually parted ways with UCLA on Sept. 30.
Now, Sunseri is back on a collegiate coaching staff and will serve as Indiana’s quarterbacks coach for next season, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. This was one of the positions Sunseri held in 2024, along with co-offensive coordinator, before leaving the program to become UCLA’s offensive coordinator in 2025.
Sunseri Has a Big Task Ahead of Him at Indiana
The reigning national champions are losing Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza, to the 2026 NFL Draft. And his younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, signed with Georgia Tech through the transfer portal after Indiana’s national championship game.
Indiana acquired former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover through the transfer portal in early January. He is projected to be Indiana’s starting quarterback next season and enrolled in Indiana in January.
Sunseri worked with second-team All-Big Ten quarterback Kurtis Rourke at Indiana in 2024. Like Hoover, Rourke also transferred to Indiana for his final season of NCAA eligibility.
Hoover ranks No. 15 in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings and as the No. 5 quarterback ahead of the new season. He is promising quarterback for Indiana, as he set as TCU school record with 3,949 passing yards in 2024.
Hoover is also “college football’s leading returning passer with 9,629 yards and is second in touchdown passes with 71”, according to ESPN’s Dave Wilson.
After an unsuccessful and short stint with UCLA’s football program, Sunseri has the opportunity to join the reigning national champions as they look to defend their title next season. Sunseri will be in charge of developing Hoover into a top quarterback for the Hoosiers in 2026.
Even though both UCLA and Indiana are in the Big Ten conference, the teams are not scheduled to face each other during the 2026 regular season.
