A former Nebraska quarterback commit has signed with a Big Ten rival. Legacy prospect Dayton Raiola will play tight end for the Oregon Ducks.

Raiola is the younger brother of former starter Dylan Raiola and the nephew of former offensive line coach Donnovan Raiola. Dylan transferred to Oregon in January and Donnovan was fired in December. Dayton and Dylan’s father, Dominic Raiola, played for Nebraska from 1997 to 2000, was an All-American center, and won the Rimington Award (2000).

Dayton Raiola chose Nebraska as a quarterback prospect over Appalachian State and Charlotte before decommitting in November. While it’s no surprise that the younger Raiola followed his brother to the Big Ten rival, the switch in position does come as somewhat of a shock, but it was likely necessary if he was going to have a chance to play for a Power Four program.

Nebraska will see both Raiolas this season as the Huskers travel to Eugene to face the Ducks on Oct. 17.
