LSU football inked the best transfer portal class in the nation in head coach Lane Kiffin's first few months on the job. Recruiting portal players can be chaotic, especially the best ones. Money gets involved, and all the top programs in the country make their pitches.

LSU nearly missed on two of its top transfer portal signees — QB Sam Leavitt and OT Jordan Seaton. Both left their Baton Rouge visits without signing, but Kiffin kept pushing. Kiffin even flew to Knoxville to meet Leavitt as the QB finished up his Tennessee visit.

Kiffin discussed that relentlessness when meeting with the media on Wednesday.

"I don't really do well with no, so that just makes me more competitive when someone says no, so sometimes that happens in recruiting, they say no, but I think that's my job, that's my job to LSU," Kiffin said.

Kiffin earned the reputation of "Portal King" at Ole Miss and that title isn't going away at LSU.

"I'm hired here to go sign the best players regardless of whether that means I got to go get on another plane or find a plane and show up somewhere and walk through Knoxville airport to find the guy, and that's just kind of how I work, and I like that because I think that wires in really with Louisiana people because I think that's how they think, like no job's too small, and find a way to go get it done, so I think it's a good match," Kiffin said.

With Leavitt, Seaton, and others wearing the purple and gold, this roster could be good enough to contend for a College Football Playoff spot in Kiffin's first year.
