Army men's lacrosse to play Rutgers indoors on chilly Saturday

Army men's lacrosse has been forced inside once again, for its second regular-season contest.

The No. 12 Black Knights will take on the No. 18 Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 1 p.m. Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. But with frigid conditions forecast, the match has been moved from the outdoor SHI Stadium (52,454 capacity) to the indoor Busch Practice Bubble – as a result, the game will be closed to the general public.

A free live stream on Facebook Live will be available through the Rutgers Athletics Facebook page, with only one camera and no announcers.

An arctic cold front will actually drop temperatures from midnight into the afternoon, forecast for 16 degrees with steady 18 mph winds, making the wind chill close to 4 degrees, which is too hazardous for players and fans alike.

Similar weather forced West Point officials to move the Jan. 31 Army season opener from outdoor Michie Stadium to the indoor Foley Athletic Center. Army beat Massachusetts 14-8 in front of no spectators and a YouTube stream audience.

The opening weekend of college men's lacrosse saw a host of games shifted indoors, moved or cancelled outright, and this week's schedule is also being affected. Notably, No. 15 Johns Hopkins' Saturday game at No. 5 Georgetown has been postponed, with a new date being sought.

Army's home "opener" at Michie Stadium is set for Saturday, February 14, at noon as Yale visits.
