A third loss on the season wasn’t enough to knock Mizzou out of the coaches poll.
Missouri football dropped seven spots to No. 24 in Sunday’s updated US LBM Coaches Poll, clinging to a spot in the rankings despite a blowout loss to Texas A&M on Saturday at home. Missouri and Tennessee are the only three-loss teams who were ranked this week.
The Tigers (6-3, 2-3 SEC) lost 38-17 to still-undefeated Texas A&M on Saturday on Faurot Field. It was Mizzou’s third loss in its past four games, and this one officially eliminated Eli Drinkwitz’s team from contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff field.
Missouri has finished back-to-back seasons with double-digit win totals and ranked among the top-25 in every major national poll and the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Tigers are 2-7 against ranked SEC teams since the beginning of the 2023 season. Since entering the top-25 in Week 5 of the 2023 season for the first time in four years, Mizzou has only spent five in-season weeks ranked outside of the top 25.
The second CFP rankings of the 2025 college football season will be revealed Tuesday night. Mizzou was No. 22 in the initial rankings and is now unlikely to be ranked among the top 25.
The Tigers now need to win out, including a bowl game, to finish this season with 10 wins.
The top seven in the coaches poll remained unchanged after the weekend slate, with Ohio State still holding on to the top spot. After the Buckeyes, Indiana was No. 2, Texas A&M was No. 3, making the Aggies the top-ranked SEC outfit. Alabama checked in at No. 4 and Georgia rounded out the top five. Oregon remained No. 6 and Ole Miss stayed at No. 7.
There are now nine SEC teams currently in the coaches’ top 25 in the updated rankings.
Elsewhere in the SEC, Texas and Oklahoma were tied at No. 10, Vanderbilt was No. 14, Tennessee was No. 20 and Mizzou was No. 24.
None of the teams Missouri has defeated this season were receiving votes on Nov. 2. The Tigers do not have a win over a team with a winning record this season.
Mizzou’s next game is against Mississippi State on Saturday, Nov. 15. The game will be Mizzou’s home finale for the 2025 season.
Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz is one of the 67 participating head coaches in the coaches poll.
