Georgia Makes Decision on Gunner Stockton’s Future After College Football Season

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is set to run it back with the program for the 2026 college football season.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Stockton has signed a new contract and will return to the Bulldogs for next season. He didn’t think about entering the transfer portal when it opened.

Stockton led the Bulldogs to an SEC title during the 2025 season and into the College Football Playoff, finishing with 2,894 yards passing, 24 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. It was his first full season as the starter after serving as the backup for the prior two seasons.

He finished the 2024 season with 440 yards through the air, one touchdown, and one interception.

Stockton will return to a Bulldogs team that will try to win it all next season. Kirby Smart has been the head coach of the Bulldogs for 10 seasons, compiling a 117-21 overall record. He led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022 and has won 36 games over the last three seasons.

Georgia will open the 2026 college football season against Tennessee State on Sept. 5 and will then play Western Kentucky on Sept. 12 before getting into SEC play. Georgia will play nine SEC games before ending the season with its annual game against rival Georgia Tech.

Time will tell whether Georgia will return to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game next season.
