The biggest recruit new Oklahoma tight ends coach Jason Witten could have landed is staying in Texas.
Well, for high school, anyway.
Cooper Witten, Jason's son, will play his senior season of football in the fall at Argyle Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas as he opted to stay a final year with his friends in the Lone Star State. When the elder Witten was hired to join coach Brent Venables' staff in Norman, many expected Cooper Witten to move with his father. It isn't happening.
In fact, notions that Cooper Witten would be a lock to play his college football where his dad coaches have dimmed in recent weeks. Shortly after Jason Witten took the job, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff visited Argyle Liberty Christian on a recruiting trip. Cooper Witten took to social media.

None of that means Cooper Witten won't play for Oklahoma. It does mean, however, he won't play high-school football in Oklahoma, putting a dent in either Norman High's or Norman North's hopes to knock off Class 6A's powerhouses.
Cooper Witten would be a catch for whatever college team picks up his scholarship. He ranks as the No. 1 linebacker in the Class of 2027 and the No. 21 player overall in the class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. The good news for the Sooners is that Venables and Co. already carry the No. 1 2027 recruiting class in the country. Though it's still early, OU has 13 commits in the class, two of which are five-star players and another five as four-stars.
