MV3: Few Bright Spots in Mizzou’s 38-17 Loss to Texas A&M

Missouri’s College Football chances officially came to an end on Saturday with a 38-17 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M — dropping them to 6-3 (2-3 SEC) on the season.
Even in the losses prior, Mizzou was at least competitive against Top-15 teams vs Alabama and Vanderbilt. That was … not the case against Texas A&M at Faurot Field.
Despite allowing 38 points, the defense was the main reason the Tigers were still somewhat in the game against an undefeated Aggies squad — especially at the linebacker position.
In a 38-17 loss, let’s get to our latest MV3.
- Triston Newsom
The senior linebacker led the Mizzou defense with 11 total tackles (six solo) and a TFL on the game. He’ll look to build off of that performance next week on Senior Night where he’ll play his last home game vs Mississippi State. Missouri’s defense is still consistently playing well — and Newsom is a huge reason why.
2. Josiah Trotter
Trotter was tied for second on the team with six total tackles (three solo) on Saturday along with a pass deflection on Marcel Reed. As a sophomore, Trotter is emerging as a star linebacker and can be a key piece for this Mizzou defense to build around in the near future as he gains more experience and leadership.
3. Jamal Roberts
I was (admittedly) wondering where Hardy was on the field sometimes on Saturday, but Jamal Roberts statistically had the better performance. On 17 carries, Roberts actually had the heavier workload and ran for 110 yards. A 4-yard touchdown run with 6:50 remaining in the 3rd quarter put Mizzou on the board for the first time — making it a 21-7 game.
