Former Oklahoma Sooners assistant director of player personnel JP Losman left the program last offseason to get back to an on-field role, and it’s a move that paid off, as he’s earned a promotion this week.

Losman spent three seasons at OU, but served as the assistant quarterbacks coach at Washington last year. After head coach Jedd Fisch and the Huskies parted ways with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jimmie Doughtery, they made the decision to promote Losman to quarterbacks coach, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

Losman aided in the development of star UW quarterback Demond Williams Jr., and he has extensive experience playing the position as well. He played his college ball at Tulane, where he served as a two-year starter in 2002 and 2003.

After being a first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, he also played for the Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins. His coaching career began at Clemson in 2017 and Brent Venables brought him to Norman in 2022. Losman’s wife, Zulaikha, was also on staff with the Sooners during the same timeframe he was. She served as OU’s director of SOUL mission, player/parent relations.

Losman’s time with the Seahawks saw him partner with Fisch, who is the Huskies’ offensive play-caller. Washington is still searching for a new offensive coordinator.

For the Sooners, they have replaced three position coaches already this offseason. OU officially announced the hiring of tight ends coach Jason Witten, and Oklahoma is reported to be hiring LaMar Morgan to coach defensive backs and Deland McCullough to coach running backs.
