Sewanee football fires coach Andy McCollum after three seasons

Sewanee fired its football coach, Andy McCollum, according to a release from the school on Nov. 10.
McCollum, a former Middle Tennessee State coach, posted an 8-22 record in three seasons at Sewanee. The Tigers have lost five of their past six games including all five home games.
Sewanee is coming off a 28-0 loss to Centre College on Nov. 8. "Coach McCollum brought a wealth of experience and a deep passion for developing young men through the game of football," Sewanee athletic director John Shackelford said in a release.
"We are grateful for his leadership and the dedication he and his staff have shown to our student-athletes. As we look ahead, we remain committed to building a program that reflects Sewanee's values of excellence, integrity, and perseverance on and off the field."
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tracy Malone will serve as interim coach for the final game of the season on Nov. 15 at Millsaps College. Malone began his career as an assistant at Riverdale on coach Gary Rankin's staff. He has also coached in Alabama and Georgia.
McCollum, who is from Marietta, Georgia, replaced Travis Rundle as Sewanee's coach in 2023. The Tigers registered a 3-7 mark in McCollum's first season — the program's most wins since 2018 — and ended a 23-game conference losing streak.
Sewanee finished 2–8 in 2024.
McCollum played at Austin Peay and began his coaching career as an assistant at MTSU on Boots Donnelly's staff from 1981-88.
McCollum served as an advance scout for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans in 2006. A national search for McCollum's replacement will begin immediately, according to the release.
